Clear Space Theatre presents "Anything Goes"

Free Public Performance

Come and see the Clear Space Theatre Company's "Legends" course as they offer a free public performance of Cole Porter's 1934 classic "Anything Goes" on Wednesday, April 17th at 11a.m.

The "Legends" group is comprised of 18 students over the age of 50 who have committed to a 12-week class in acting and voice. The class is co-taught by David Button as director and Doug Yetter as musical director. Each semester they offer a condensed version of a Broadway musical presenting the full score, but with narrative dialogue to connect the songs.

Clear Space Artistic Director, Doug Yetter, commenting on how the class came to be stated, "We've modeled the "Legends" program after the work I did with "Encores" at City Center in New York City. "Encores" presents shows as an audience would have seen on their original opening night, featuring leading Broadway talent, presented as "readings" with each actor carrying the script for the show throughout the performance. Knowing that our class had to learn an entire score in a condensed period of time, we thought it wise to reduce the dialogue to narration between songs. This affords us the opportunity to spend more time staging the musical numbers, and eliminates the need for memorization."

The score features a combination of songs written by Porter from the original score as well as those used in various revivals of the show including "I Get a Kick Out of You," "Friendship," "Blow, Gabriel, Blow," "Easy to Love," "It's De-Lovely" and the title tune "Anything Goes." Joining the cast are the Tapsations who will add their skills at tap-dancing to some of the musical numbers. Doors open at 10:30 with the free performance at 11:00. The Clear Space Theatre is located at 20 Baltimore Avenue in Rehoboth Beach. For more information, please contact the box office at (302) 227.2270.
